2002 The Welcomer Group Starts
|

Originally intended uniform
- In June of 2002 at a town meeting World Manager Rabbit announced that new staff positions were being formed in Dreamscape called Welcomers.
- Many citizens were there and signed up to be part of the new staff.
- Rabbit said that the Welcomers would not take away from any group or citizens helping new members.
- At first there was no schedule or rules and we used our own knowledge to help new members.
- We also didn't post, for our shift, unless we had a reason.

These were:

- To: ALL From: Rabbit (CTRabbit) 6/26/2002
- We would like to thank you all for stepping forward to help as Welcomers.
- Lori has taken on the job of overseeing both this forum and insuring that the Welcomers as a group are kept informed and have a line of communication and support. Galaxxi and Katze will help answer questions you may have and are both excellent sources of information and help.
- We have formed this group with the sole intent of making potential new members feel welcomed to the DS and to insure that they have help if needed. Help in areas such as finding their way around, learning to maneuver their avatar, to paint their avatar and even to keep a grip on their items. Many newbies come into the world with some knowledge of the software and technology behind the DreamScape. Many also, have no idea what to do or how to do it once they arrive. Welcomers can steer new members to resources and many important links have been placed in the Welcome Center for this purpose. Please also keep in mind that the Acolyte on duty is a valuable resource as well and problems; conflicts and the like should be referred to them. We do not want you to have to deal with any problem members that you may encounter; these should be given to the Acolytes and Caretakers.
- In the next weeks we will all be learning as we go on what the needs are and how best to handle each. This forum will be our platform for this learning process.
- You are all part of a team, which is made up by a number of people that enjoy the DreamScape and wish to make their experience, as well as the experiences of others, more enjoyable. At most times you will be on duty there will also be an Acolyte in world on duty to field pages. Let them know you are here by paging them when you begin a help desk shift.
- We will try to answer your questions as quickly as possible and look forward to any and all input from you on how best to make this work.

- To: ALL From: Rabbit (CTRabbit) 6/27/2002
- What is the single most important thing in your thinking a newbie needs to know?
- I thought this would be a fun topic to start off a discussion on exactly what we each feel is an important realization that has come to us at some time in our stay in Kymer.
- One needs to take a moment and stop to realize that behind each avatar there is a living, feeling human being. We may never in real life have the opportunity to meet, speak with and interact with such diversity in nationality, religion, and culture. Kymer is made up from a worldwide member base with vast differences in opinions but for the most part there is a commonality of values, morals and ethics. Each avatar in Kymer deserves the respect, tolerance and common courtesy that we give one another unthinkingly in our real day-to-day lives. We are not and never will be a community until each of us realizes this and does not allow the anonymity of distance and not being face to face dictate actions and behaviors we would never even consider in real life.

Caretaker Lori responded to Rabbit's post with this which was a very important thing for new members and is a reminder for those already here.

- To: Rabbit (CTRabbit) From: Lori (DS) 6/27/2002
- I think the most important thing for a newbie to realize is...
- That you are joining a family of sorts when you come to Dreamscape... I love the saying, you can pick your friends but you can't pick your family. And even though we may not always get along with everyone we encounter in this world, we all are striving for the same thing, a community that we ALL can call home.
- I see everyone here as my family, and as in RW, you don't always agree with your family's values
or opinions, but you are STILL a family. You have to learn sometimes to agree to disagree and leave it as that. This can be the most rewarding experience in your life, if you just keep an open mind
AND an open heart.

- Unfortunately World Manager Rabbit, Caretaker Lori and many others left their positions in July of 2002. We still miss them greatly.
- Oracle Katze (WM) then took over the Welcomers and more Welcomers were asked to fill in for those that had left for one reason or another.
- Welcomer Cov
- Welcomer DBF
- Welcomer DT
- Welcomer Heavenly
- Welcomer JeanJean
- In August, Welcomer Copper Penny decorated a Welcomer turf and Welcomer Ailsa maintained it.
- World Manager Katze created the Welcomer Lounge in October.
|

- In October we changed from the Welcomer forum in Delphi to one in Topica.
- In December of that year the Welcomers got to play Kringle during the winter holidays.
- We attended our first staff party also, which was fun. We had games and prizes and talked a lot.
